Research Shows TVOKids Resources Help Kids Develop Key Literacy Skills

tvo kidsNew research from a joint TVO and OISE literacy pilot program, Literacy Fun for Families (PDF), showed that a test group of children who used TVOKids.com resources made “significantly greater gains” in key areas of early reading, writing and phonological awareness when compared to a control group who did not use the TVOKids materials. ETFO Welcomes Provincial Anti-Bullying Bill

eftoThe Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) welcomed the Ontario government’s proposed Accepting Schools Act, saying that it will build on current efforts to create safe schools and address bullying behaviour. The bill proposes to directly address bullying of all kinds, including bullying related to gender identity and sexual orientation as well as race, ancestry, colour, religion, and disability. Still Time To Enter The 21st Century Classroom Video Challenge

Mindshare LearningThe MindShare Learning Report, Canada’s Learning & Technology eMagazine and supporting sponsors will be accepting submissions for the 4th Annual MindShare Learning Report™ 21st Century Classroom Video Challenge until midnight EST on Friday December 16, 2011. This contest challenges Canadian K-12 teachers (from publicly funded schools) to create and upload a 3-5 minute video showcasing their best practices teaching with technology to engage students and enhance learning outcomes.  The official announcement of the 2011/12 three “Grand Prize Winners” will be on February 1, 2012. Each winner will receive a classroom technology prize package valued at over $15,000 for their school.

Cosmodome Ready To Help Canadians Experience A Little Space Exploration

On December 15th the centre open its doors to a new and unusual concept: a virtual experience of space and methods of space exploration. Unique in Canada, this museum dedicated to astronautics will present three interactive space missions that are scientific, educational and entertaining.
