The NFB Returns To Annecy Animation Festival With Nine Films

nfbAt the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which takes place from June 9 to 14, 2014, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) will present a rich selection of innovative films showcasing the talents of animation filmmakers from here and elsewhere. This year’s program boasts no less than nine short films produced or co-produced by the NFB: seven of them are in competition, six are receiving world-premiere screenings, and four are international co-productions. The NFB is extremely pleased to play a part in the worldwide renown of Canadian animated films. Animation has always had pride of place at the NFB, and is the genre par excellence through which audiences can discover the daring creativity of some of today’s finest filmmakers. TELETOON Canada Premieres Steven Universe This April

teletoonSteven Universe premieres on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT in TELETOON Canada’s flagship Can’t Miss Thursdays programming block.  The new series is created by Emmy® and Annie Award-nominated writer and storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar (Adventure Time). Teletoon April Programming Highlights

teletoonTELETOON premieres the new series Steven Universe this April. Described as “the romantic misadventures of a weird looking boy and a flame-spewing princess” in the New York Times, the show follows Steven and three gem-covered female superheroes Amethyst, Garnet and Pearl. April Fool’s Day includes the premiere of a one hour Mightly Mighty Monsters: Pranks for the Memories special as well as the Total Drama All-Stars’ “alternate ending” finale episode where the season’s loser ends up winning! Both Packages From Planet X and Ultimate Spider-Man also air their season finale episodes this April. Lego Ninjago drops two brand new episodes back-to-back! Animatrik Film Design Introduces SolidTrack

AnimatrikBurnaby’s Animatrik Film Design has announced the expansion of its Virtual Production services offerings through the addition of the first Solid Track system in North America. Animatrik is further enhancing its SolidTrack system with Ultimatte Real-time Chroma keying; Encodacam lens encoders from General Lift; and two high performance Autodesk MotionBuilder systems. The result will deliver a solution capable of visualizing CG characters, sets and props in real-time, with support for camera zooms and minimal latency while shooting live action. Angry Birds Movie Nests In Vancouver

imageworksRovio Entertainment has chosen Sony Pictures Imageworks, Inc. in Vancouver as its primary animation house for the production of the Angry Birds movie, the upcoming animated film based on Rovio’s globally beloved brand. The film is being produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder and executive produced by Mikael Hed and David Maisel. The movie is being directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis; the screenplay is by Jon Vitti. Angry Birds is slated for a July 1, 2016 release and will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures. DHX Media Announces Toy Licensing Deal For Johnny Test

dhx mediaDHX Media Ltd. has announced that the studio has signed a toy licensing deal with Quebec company Imports Dragon for its children’s animation series Johnny Test. Under the terms of the deal, licensee Imports Dragon has acquired the rights to create collectable figures of the action adventure star Johnny Test, set to launch at retail for this Fall 2014 in North America. One of the top rated kid’s TV shows globally since 2005, Johnny Test is among the most aired shows on Cartoon Network in the U.S., and also airs on the broadcaster’s international channels.
