Unity Technologies, provider of the Unity multi-platform engine and development tools, announced upcoming support for the open source Tizen mobile operating system. The deployment tools currently under development will allow Unity’s massive community of developers to build and publish games to Tizen OS smartphones and tablets via the Tizen Store later this year. Unity Technologies, provider of the Unity multi-platform engine and development tools, is pushing the democratization of game development further than ever before by making its basic mobile tools completely free to independent developers and small studios. Starting today, Unity’s gigantic indie developer community can publish their games and apps to iOS and Android in the build menu. Feminists in Games, funded by a Canadian SSHRC Grant is an endeavor created with the purpose of assembling an international research association of digital media researchers from a full range of salient disciplines to begin building ‘connective tissue’ between and among them, so as to better understand the origins and consequences of this gendered digital divide, and intervene in its reproduction. In the group’s second annual workshop, which will be held at the Centre For Digital Media this May 31st and June 1st, attendees will have two full days of panels, presentations and discussions on issues which impact women in technology and development. triOS College has announced the launch of its new weekend video game camps, aimed at getting students excited and informed about what it takes to design and develop a video game. These two-days camps run out of the triOS College Toronto and Kitchener campuses on select weekends from May 25 to August 24, 2013, with potentially more dates to be added. Video game enthusiasts will be able to choose from two different camps: “Learning to make Games with Gamemaker” for ages 11-14 and “Game Development with Unity 3D” for ages 15-17. EA Sports™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) have announced an extension of their existing licensing agreement until December 31, 2022. Under the terms of the agreement, EA Sports maintains exclusive rights to release FIFA-branded action and management videogames. Namco Bandai Studios Inc. announced today from Japan that its new subsidiary, Namco Bandai Studios Vancouver Inc., will start operations in June. The studio will develop online social games and significantly boost jobs in British Columbia’s technology sector.
