Extensive upgrades to the Canadian Film Centre‘s (CFC) Windfields campus are one step closer to reality today, as federal, provincial and municipal representatives joined Centre staff to celebrate the construction of the Northern Dancer Pavilion, which will allow the Centre to expand its film, television, digital media, screen acting and music program activities and will provide additional event space for the Centre and surrounding community. The project also involves renovating seven heritage buildings at the Centre, and is helping to improve cultural infrastructure and create local jobs in Toronto. Read the rest of this entry »

Over a thousand young students from underprivileged communities in 23 elementary schools of the Pointe-de-l’Île and Montreal School Boards took part in the third edition of Propulsion, an innovative and unique program designed to encourage student retention through compelling educational projects. The results of their efforts were officially unveiled today at the WB Games Montréal studio. Based on a “learning through play” approach, this year’s project was aimed at Grade 4 to 6 students and involved building amusement rides with LEGO blocks. Using an entrepreneurial approach combining learning and everyday life, this project was successful at upholding students’ motivation, especially with young boys. Read the rest of this entry »

triOS College has announced the launch of its new weekend video game camps, aimed at getting students excited and informed about what it takes to design and develop a video game. These two-days camps run out of the triOS College Toronto and Kitchener campuses on select weekends from May 25 to August 24, 2013, with potentially more dates to be added. Video game enthusiasts will be able to choose from two different camps: “Learning to make Games with Gamemaker” for ages 11-14 and “Game Development with Unity 3D” for ages 15-17. EMC Canada announced earlier today the donation of 184 BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablets to 23 elementary schools in the Toronto District School Board’s West Region family of schools. CDMN Canada 3.0 2013, Canada’s only national digital media conference focused on the commercialization of innovation, will feature world-class speakers, a wide-ranging program and showcase of Canadian entrepreneurship when it gets under way May 14 and 15, 2013 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The British Columbia Film Foundation‘s Daryl Duke & William Vince Scholarships are intended to honour the significant contributions of Mr. Duke and Mr. Vince to the film and television industry by assisting in the advanced training of outstanding BC filmmakers. Two Daryl Duke Scholarships and one William Vince Scholarship – in the amount of $10,000 each – will be awarded to exceptional British Columbians who have completed post secondary studies or equivalent training at an accredited institute in their field, and are entering advanced education in film or interactive media.
