The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is launching the fifth edition of Get Animated! from October 22 to November 6, 2011, and offering an expanded array of free animation screenings and activities in over 20 cities across Canada. AssentWorks will be a place where inventors, engineers, designers and business people can create practically anything using space-age and modern equipment. Each year, an independent international jury, consisting of nineteen members, judges the entries in nine different categories, submitted by photojournalists, agencies, newspapers and magazines from all corners of the world. This year’s competition attracted 5,691 photographers from 125 countries. In total 108,059 images were entered in the contest. The exhibition is comprised of 177 photographs and is free and open to the public.

The World Press Photo Exhibition will be on display from October 5 to 26, 2011 in the Allen Lambert Galleria at Brookfield Place in Toronto. This traveling exhibition, unique in its kind, is the result of a worldwide annual contest on press photography and is brought to Toronto with the support of Brookfield Place. 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the exhibition at Brookfield Place.

The program runs throughout the month of October and will take two forms: classroom sessions and an interactive career show. The Ontario Media Development Corporation and DOC Toronto are hosting a workshop for documentary producers with Jennifer Blitz, Director of Tax Credits & Financing on October 5th. Ms. Blitz will do a hands-on presentation about the process of applying for Ontario Film and Television Tax Credits. The workshop will feature hypothetical case studies and strategies to help you maximize your returns. Documentary producer Jeannette Loakman (Peep Culture, Cat Ladies) will moderate. This workshop is free for DOC Members or $20.00 for Non-Members. Space for this event is limited to 40 attendees, with registration mandatory. The workshop will take place at Toronto’s NFB Mediatheque, 150 John Street 2nd Floor Atelier, beginning at 2:30 p.m. and running until 4:30 p.m.
