A new Nintendo Direct video has revealed more than a dozen new ways that Nintendo is delivering both variety and value to consumers in 2013 and beyond. Nintendo unveiled key characters in the next installments of the Super Smash Bros. and The Legend of Zelda series, new designs for Wii Remote Plus controllers in honour of everyone’s favourite video game brothers and a variety of free and paid downloads to expand the enjoyment of existing Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. Xbox has announced two more free games are coming to Xbox Live Gold members in October as part of Games with Gold. Starting today, two great titles will be available for free for a limited time, and one of them is from the award winning developers at Capybara. Follow the epic adventure of five young heroes leading their armies to save the world in Might & Magic Clash of Heroes – a unique mix of RPG and puzzle battle mechanics with online and local battle modes for up to four players. Ubisoft has announced the concentration of American operations for online games and of infrastructures for its global network in Montreal. In addition, the company will be investing in the expansion of its motion capture technologies expertise. This important technological and operational consolidation represents a total investment of 373 M$ over 7 years, and is expected to generate 500 new jobs in Quebec over the same period. The Writers’ Trust of Canada has revealed the finalists for two fiction prizes. The announcement was made at Ben McNally Books. The five finalists for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, recognizing writers of the year’s best novel or short story collection, were announced by Jan Innes, vice president, government relations, Rogers Communications, along with writer and prize juror Alison Pick; the three finalists for the Writers’ Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize, recognizing new and developing writers for the best short story first published in a Canadian literary journal during the previous year, were announced by juror and past prize winner Miranda Hill. The Interactive Fund is a program created in partnership between Creative BC and the BC Arts Council. The program is intended to support the production of high quality, original, interactive digital media content and software applications owned and controlled by BC companies or individuals. The funding is a non-recoupable advance of up to $50,000 and does not require matching funding or market support to trigger eligibility. This will be a new online service built exclusively for Xbox One that takes the world’s most popular fitness videos and makes them interactive.
