Findings from Randstad’s latest Global Workmonitor, surveying employees in 32 countries around the world, reveal that most Canadian workers have access to the Internet at work, and nearly half own a private smartphone or device. According to the survey, most Canadian employees report having access to the Internet at work (76%). In Canada alone, 13 per cent of employees say they have a smartphone which includes e-mail that is provided by their employer, while another 47 per cent of respondents report owning a smartphone privately. The most common management mistake has an easy remedy: don’t keep employees in the dark. In a new Accountemps survey, 39 per cent of chief financial officers (CFOs) interviewed said lack of communication between staff and management is the most frequent misstep companies make in managing their teams. The Television Bureau of Canada has announced at today’s invitation-only event TV Day 2012, the results of a comprehensive biometric and eye tracking study, revealing significant cross-platform connections between television advertising and online advertising. The research, presented to the leaders of Canada’s marketing and advertising communities, was aimed at determining if responses to online ads differ when they are primed by exposure to ads for the same brands on TV, Radio, or Newspaper. British Columbia ranks first overall for its eGovernment initiatives, specifically the provision of online services and information and online engagement of citizens, a Stratford Institute study released today reveals. In this first-ever national evaluation of provincial governments’ online presence (PDF) commissioned by the Stratford Institute and prepared by Vancouver firm Brainmaven Research, Alberta takes second place, and Ontario ranks third overall. The newest findings in a new report (PDF) from Trend Micro compare the ability of several different mobile platforms to meet the demands of use in the enterprise. Canada’s own BlackBerry 7.0 scored highest across the board, ahead of Apple iOS5, Windows Phone 7.5 and Google’s Android 2.3. More than half (54%) of workers interviewed said they would be somewhat or very likely to leave their current position if they didn’t feel appreciated by their manager.
