Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) has announced that it will launch its 2013 Scholarship Program on Tuesday, April 2nd. Entering its second season, the AMI Scholarship Program reaffirms the organization’s continuing mission to improve, increase and promote media accessibility for all Canadians. The program awards two $5,000 scholarships per year to qualifying individuals, one of which is reserved for a student with a permanent disability. Coming up on April 1st 2013, Nimbus School of Recording Arts is launching the first annual Nimbus Mix Contest in partnership with Universal Music Canada, hosted by Indaba Music. High school students, aged 13-19 have the chance to create their own mix (or remix) of tracks from Hedley, Sam Roberts, and Karl Wolf for a chance to win a $25,000 scholarship to attend Nimbus. Starting April 1, 2013, students will be able to download the raw tracks and create their own unique mixes (or remixes). The world’s largest touring exhibition on the evolution of video games makes its first Canadian appearance at the Ontario Science Centre. With more than 150 playable games, Game On 2.0 charts key game developments from 1962 to the present day; from the very first commercial coin-operated pinball game to the latest in virtual reality, multi-player experiences and 3D video games. Student teams representing 35 high schools from Ontario, Quebec, Michigan and Mexico are poised for a fierce yet friendly three-day robotics competition this week at University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Competitors aged 14-18 will match their Frisbee shooting, pyramid climbing, 140-lb robots in high-intensity robo-sports, in front hundreds of cheering fans at UOIT’s Campus Recreational and Wellness Centre. The FIRST Greater Toronto East Regional Final begins March 7, and kicks off a series of three Ontario regional FIRST Robotics Competitions (FRC). Organized by FIRST Robotics Canada, the Ontario FRC regional finals are sponsored by BlackBerry® and Hatch, and supported by a number of other leading engineering and technology companies. CyberPatriot V will culminate next week with the National Finals Competition on March 14-16 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. After three impressive preliminary rounds for which over 1,200 teams registered, just 28 teams remain, including 2 teams from Manitoba. The teams will compete for top honours in the All Service and Open Division categories. Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley will be the Keynote Speaker at the National Finals Competition Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. Awards will be presented by Maj. Gen. Suzanne M. An overwhelming response to the annual Women in Games Scholarship offered by Vancouver Film School (VFS) has led to the unprecedented announcement of four recipients. Janel Jolly of Canada, Nicha Jaijadesuk of Thailand, Jaymee Mak of Australia, and Anna Prein of Russia have all been awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the one-year Game Design program.
