Today the Canada Media Fund (CMF), in collaboration with Konrad Group, launched InnovaTV, a new online resource that takes an in-depth look at emerging technologies that enable producers to create TV content in new and innovative ways. With 12 presentations already being offered, this new resource provides developers, technologists and creators with a platform to share useful information on innovation and convergence in the television industry. Calgary-based Dissolve is a new stock video marketplace created to simplify the stock video purchase experience. Launching in beta, the venture is backed by $5 million in funding from several former co-founders of Veer and iStockphoto, with participation from iNovia Capital, Dissolve challenges leaders like Getty Images on quality and price. The Province of BC recently launched iMapBC 2.0, an upgraded version of its popular online mapping toolkit that will provide improved access to thousands of geographical datasets. Information on the new iMapBC 2.0 will be available for delegates at this week’s Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) Conference in Whistler. BroadbandTV, one of the largest Multi-Channel Networks (MCN) on YouTube, signaled its continued growth today by announcing that it has reached a billion monthly impressions. The network now boasts more than 100 million subscribers from over 10,000 content partners, an increase of 2,200 content partners in just two months. In June this year, the company announced an initial $36 million investment from RTL Group, the leading European entertainment network. Fifteen open, online textbooks in subject areas ranging from math and chemistry to marketing, psychology, and business have been reviewed by post-secondary faculty and are now freely available for download from BCcampus. More than 38 instructors and professors from post-secondary institutions around the province reviewed existing open textbooks for quality and relevance in British Columbia.
