Toronto-based developer Sumbola is very excited to announce its cloud-based reading platform for both the web and mobile. If you’re an author, on Sumbola’s platform your book becomes the sum of its readers, and the reading experience, right down to a single word, is now part of your knowledge. In the coming weeks, Sumbola will launch its Beta Author Program. A limited number of 200 authors will be invited in to upload their books, and access the innovative publishing backend. Cineflix Media Inc., an international creator, producer and distributor of television entertainment, is pleased to announce that Andrew Akman has been appointed to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer of Cineflix Media. Akman is responsible for overseeing the company’s corporate operations, information technology, and post-production. The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, hosted a roundtable consultation in Edmonton today with high tech innovators, researchers and municipal Open Data leaders on the relaunch of the Government of Canada’s Open Data Portal. The Edmonton roundtable is the second in a series of cross-country consultations with the Open Data community and focuses on the features and content they would like to see on the new Open Data Portal set to launch later this year. Knowledge in Development, publisher of the language assessment measure, the Language Use Inventory (LUI), has announced the launch of My Child’s Talk, an online portal where concerned parents can quickly find out if their 2- or 3-year-olds’ spoken language is on track. Approximately 1 in 10 children under the age of 5 are estimated to be at-risk for delays in their language development. Delays in language development can affect a child’s development in many other areas, such as making friends, transitioning to school, and learning to read, or in some cases may an indicator of a more serious developmental problem. Save BC Film has released the first of its PSA videos. These videos feature some of Vancouver’s finest talent, including Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1), Pascale Hutton (Arctic Air on CBC), Garry Chalk (Fringe), Alvin Sanders, Terence H. Winkless (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Tyler Labine (Reaper), Victoria Bidewell (Comforting Skin the movie), Keith Dallas, Manooj Sood (Little Mosque on the Prairie). The video, which was produced as a volunteer effort, is designed to raise public awareness about the state of BC’s film and television industry and to educate people about tax incentives and how they benefit the province’s economy.
