It’s great to see all of the nominations already listed on the Canadian Videogame Awards site, but I know there are more of you out there, and you have only ten days remaining to get your nominations in for the 4th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards, to be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre on April 20th, 2013. This year’s show, sponsored by Future Shop, will once again celebrate the best and brightest of the Canadian videogame industry. Last evening at the Save BC Film townhall meeting held at North Shore Studios, the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of BC (MPPIA) officially announced We Create BC – an initiative to showcase and celebrate BC’s creative industries, kicking off with BC’s film and television production industry. Last fall Vancouver’s videogame sector held a townhall meeting hosted by DigiBC to discuss the challenges it is facing. I want to delve a bit deeper into several points that have been raised over the past few days, but as the research and communication is going to take some time, in the meantime, here’s your introduction to We Create BC. Toronto-based Fixmo, a developer of mobile security and risk management solutions for public and private sector organizations, has announced that the company has received a strategic investment from Samsung Venture Investment Corporation (Samsung Ventures), the venture capital arm of the Samsung Group. The funding will be used to advance research and development in the areas of mobile device integrity verification, data loss prevention (DLP), risk analytics and trusted mobile computing. The Canadian Internet Forum (CIF) is the place for Canadians to share their thoughts on the development, deployment and governance of the Internet in Canada. Consisting of an annual event and an online discussion forum, the CIF brings together leading thinkers and experts to discuss a variety of Internet-related topics. The next CIF will begin on February 28, 2013 with a national event in Ottawa, and registration is now open. This year the CIF national event will be kicking off an online discussion forum, as Canadians can further explore the topics being discussed at the national event online. In line with its new strategic vision Fostering Cultural Success, Telefilm Canada will select a contingent of 20 export-ready independent Canadian game development companies to support and showcase during GDC 2013. Toronto-based Music for Productions has just launched a new website in response to the demand for stock music and production music library services. The new website features an innovative, modern design, more user-friendly navigation and features close to 28,000 tracks. MFP has acquired several new catalogues and expanded their offering considerably. For now clients can navigate from the old site to the new one and select either one when doing a search.
