Family Channel makes its mark with Canadian students as it launches its ninth annual Bullying Awareness Week (November 14-20). This year the campaign, entitled What’s Up, Stand UP! features a special programming event, beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET/PT on Monday, November 14, along with bullying-themed programming throughout the week and new original content. In addition, Family will hold two online chats during the week giving kids the opportunity to discuss bullying-related topics with trained professionals and Family stars. Vancouver Film School (VFS) has announced that the sixth annual Game Design Expo will be taking place on January 21-22, 2012. Game Design Expo is a unique weekend of presentations and networking, beginning with Industry Speaker Day on Saturday, January 21st. The full day of presentations will be followed by a special panel discussion focused on the local indie game scene.

Library and Archives Canada (LAC), the Canadian Urban Libraries Council and the Canadian War Museum are contributing to Remembrance Week commemorations with an expanded collaborative agreement for the delivery of Lest We Forget workshops across Canada. These workshops allow students to research primary source documents by looking through the military service files of Canadian soldiers, doctors or nurses who served in the First World War or who were killed in action in the Second World War. The Canadian War Museum has launched a free mobile application that invites iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users anywhere in the world on an interactive tour of over two dozen of the Museum’s most notable features and artifacts. Owners of these popular handheld devices can use the mobile application to obtain one-stop access to information about the Canadian War Museum from anywhere in the world. The tour showcases 28 Museum features and artifacts, including objects that bring to life some of the monumental events in Canada’s military history. The Canadian War Museum invites all Canadians to participate in one of the most moving Remembrance Day ceremonies in Canada. On November 11 at exactly 11 a.m. EST, sunlight shines through a single window to illuminate the headstone of Canada’s Unknown Soldier. In less than a month, NASA will take a bold new step in the exploration of Planet Mars with the launch of a new rover, Curiosity. Curiosity is the centerpiece of the Mars Science Laboratory mission and will seek to determine if the Red Planet has ever had conditions supportive of life. Scheduled to launch November 25, 2011, Curiosity will carry a Canadian-made science instrument that will enable the rover to determine the chemical composition of the rocks and soil on Mars. Join TVO as it revisits the historic and dramatic final days of the First World War, all through a unique Twitter campaign that focuses on the Ontario media headlines of the time. From November 4-11, TVO will be tweeting 10-15 times daily with the headlines of war-related newspaper stories from November 4-11, 1918.  As part of TVO’s Remembrance programming, the campaign will provide a glimpse of what Ontarians of the era experienced, including breaking news from the European war front, coverage of how the war’s final days affected the lives of people at home, plus exclusive interviews linked to WWI veterans. Canadians will continue to have access to a comprehensive, national, historical online dictionary thanks to support from the Government of Canada. Funding was announced today at the University of Toronto by Paul Calandra, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Member of Parliament (Oak Ridges-Markham), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
