New York’s Cieri Media is launching a new festival aimed at showcasing the geekiest shorts they can find. The Ge/Ne/rk Fest NYC, which stands for Geek/Nerd/Dork Festival, is looking for submissions – I couldn’t find anything on their site that says “USA-made films only” so I am going on the presumption that it’s open to global submissions. The festival will accept submissions of short films, up to approximately 25 minutes in length, in the categories of Comedy, Sci-Fi, Horror/Thriller, Fantasy, and Animation/Anime. The Canadian International Television Festival (CITF) will expand to three days and now run from Friday, November 15th through Sunday, November 17th at Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox. It was also announced today that the national #EyeOnCanada (#VueSurleCanada) initiative from the Canada Media Fund (CMF), Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA), and Telefilm Canada will be the focus of the first day of the CITF. We are going to be at Merging Media 2103, which is being held at the Granville Island Art’s Club in Vancouver this November 6th and 7th, and we would like to see you there. The organizers over at Merging Media would like you to answer a somewhat easy, although possibly tricky, trivia question about the conference’s speakers correctly in order to be entered in a random draw to win one of three conference passes. Join the Vancouver ACM SIGGRAPH chapter as Spark CG proudly presents an evening session on “Elysium” by the Image Engine team. The presentation, which takes place on Wednesday, October 23rd at the Vancouver International Film Centre, will be followed by a technical preview by Side Effects Software. The Grand Seduction, one of the year’s most talked-about Canadian films, will open the 24th annual St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival. The film will be presented as part of the Eye on Canada program, a new national promotional initiative by Telefilm Canada, the Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Canadian Media Production Association. The Eye on Canada program aims to increase awareness of, and interest in, the success of Canadian audiovisual content, and to promote pride in the industry across the country and around the world.
