Allan Gotlieb, Chairman of the Donner Canadian Foundation, today announced that the winner of the Donner Book Prize, the award for best book on public policy by a Canadian, will now receive $50,000 (up from $35,000). The other shortlisted titles will now take home $7,500 (up from $5,000). Mr. Gotlieb also announced the official Call for Submissions and Jury for the fourteenth annual Donner Prize. Over the weekend of September 30th, more than 400 college and university students competed in the Great Canadian Appathon2, creating a mobile game in under 48 hours. Fuelled by pizza and energy drinks more than 400 students across Canada worked non-stop over the weekend of September 30th to develop 88 mobile games during the Great Canadian Appathon2. Presented by XMG Studio and the National Post, the Great Canadian Appathon2 gave students the opportunity to win over $50,000 in cash and prizes, get their game published and even win a chance at a job in the games industry at XMG Studio. Beginning today, the third edition of the Get-Entrepreneurial Rally will enable you to discover and vote for the Quebec entrepreneur whose path is most inspiring. Organized by the Réseau des carrefours jeunesse-emploi du Quebec (RCJEQ), this online contest helps promote new entrepreneurs from across Quebec. As part of National Entrepreneurship Day (NED), celebrated annually on November 16th, it stimulates the entrepreneurial potential of Quebec residents aged 35 and under. Best Buy Canada is opening a new store in Brossard, Quebec this weekend, with the celebrations beginning on
Friday, November 4 at Quartier DIX30, 8480 Boulevard Leduc. Customers can line up to win a $1,000 Best Buy gift card each morning and a 3DTV giveaway will be held on Sunday. The new store will be the fifth in Canada to include a full musical instruments section. Waygoz, the web-based game-swap service, has launched a new contest. The grand prize is a Call of Duty Xbox 360 and a role as the Call of Duty Evangelist on Waygoz.com. All users have to do is head over to the new Waygoz Facebook page, upload a Call of Duty related video or picture and tell Waygoz why they should be selected as the Call of Duty Expert. The contest is open now and closes November 7th. The winner will be announced November 8 2011.
If you haven’t yet heard of Waygoz, it’s a service that connects local gamers, allowing them to swap video games directly, bypassing the need for gamers to accept below market trade in values from traditional game retailers like GameStop, EB Games and Best Buy. Waygoz launched in beta in Toronto on October 23rd with plans to expand North American wide in 2012.

What do Degrassi: The Next Generation and Life with Derek have in common? These popular Canadian programs were both recipients of the Shaw Rocket Prize, an annual $50,000 prize awarded to the best independently-produced Canadian children’s program.
As part of the Shaw Rocket Fund, the Prize is presented each year to a Canadian children’s, youth, or family program and its associated digital content, voted for by children across the country.
