Government of Canada Acquires Largest Known Collection of War of 1812 History

Government of CanadaLibrary and Archives Canada and the future Canadian Museum of History acquired the Sherbrooke Collection today, the largest and most complete collection of War of 1812 documentation ever, which has been in the Sherbrooke family exclusively for the last 200 years. The collection of books, maps, manuscripts and images from the War of 1812 era once belonged to Sir John Coape Sherbrooke, former Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia and Governor General of British North America. Seneca College Involved In Third Award-Winning Chris Landreth Film

senecaSubconscious Password, the latest film by Oscar®-winning director Chris Landreth was produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) with the participation of Animation Arts Centre of Seneca College and Copperheart Entertainment. It recently had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France and won the prestigious Annecy Cristal for best short film. Landreth joined forces once again with producer Marcy Page of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), producer Mark Smith of Copperheart Entertainment, and the Seneca College Animation Arts Centre, who collaborated with him to make Ryan (2004) and The Spine (2009). Don Tapscott Named As Trent’s Eleventh Chancellor

As part of the installation ceremony, Mr. Tapscott will address graduating students, their families and members of the Trent community prior to the conferring of degrees. Following the presentation of degrees, Mr. Tapscott will officially be installed as chancellor by taking the Oath of Office. Representatives of different sectors of the University, including faculty, the Board of Governors and alumni, will divest Mr. Tapscott of his honorary robes and invest him with his chancellor robes to complete the installation. Rogers Communications Announces Connected For Success Pilot Project

BDC Recognizes Aboriginal Entrepreneurship At E-Spirit Business Plan Competition Awards Ceremony

bdcThe Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) announced today the winners of its 13th annual BDC E-Spirit Business Plan Competition. Gold, Silver, and Bronze were awarded to the “Kanata of Youth” team from Winnipeg, MB,  “Frisbis” team from Coldstream, BC, and the “Onimiki” team from Maniwaki, QC, at a ceremony held at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. A total of 34 teams of Aboriginal students from across Canada participated in the competition. The three winning teams received cash prizes in the amount of $1,500 for Gold, $750 for Silver and $500 for Bronze. Nine Special Achievement awards were also presented with winners receiving iPads, Netbooks, and iPods. Read the rest of this entry »
