The Canada Media Fund Champions Canada’s Children’s And Youth Trailblazers At MIPJunior 2012

Canada MipCom Country of Honour 2012Today at Cannes the Canada Media Fund (CMF) featured Canada’s leading-edge and innovative transmedia series, games, software and mobile applications made specifically for children and youth. The Canada Media Fund’s Catalina Briceno, Director of Industry and Market Trends, presented a special screening of ten outstanding projects representative of Canada’s creative screen-based industry geared towards the youth market. Last year alone, the CMF committed a total of $79 million to 128 projects targeting the children’s and youth market,  presented on television or developed for digital platforms.  This represents 23% of the CMF’s support of the Canadian television and digital media industry. Canadian Digital Media Network Officially Launches Soft-Landing Program

CDMNThe Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN), in partnership with its nodes across Canada, has announced the official launch of its Soft-Landing Program which enables companies to explore and capitalize on global business opportunities. Participants in the pilot phase of the program have already had success over the past eight months and, with today’s official launch, CDMN announces support for up to 20 companies to participate in the next program round starting in January, 2013. Popular Websites In Canada Disclosing Personal Information

Government of CanadaSome leading websites in Canada are inappropriately “leaking” registered users’ personal information – including names, email addresses and postal codes – to third-party sites such as advertising companies, research by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada has found. The leakage identified in the testing occurred in a way that would be invisible to most people using these websites. Ontario Startups Receive 5.4M Dollars From Investment Accelerator Fund

MaRSTwelve Ontario companies have received funding from the Investment Accelerator Fund (IAF), bringing the program’s total investment in Ontario’s emerging enterprises to $26.6 million in 57 companies since its inception. As Ontario’s most active seed-stage investor, the IAF helps startups develop their businesses and position them for further investment by angels and venture capitalists. BC Games Industry Town Hall – Where Do We Go From Here?

DigiBCOrbyAs those of you who follow us on Twitter will be well aware, DigiBC hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday night for the BC game development community. It was encouraging to see such an excellent turnout for the event, and kudos to Whitney and Carly for putting the event together. The evening featured a panel of local creative devs with Lance Davis taking on the role of moderator. Opening remarks for the evening were presented by Rick Griffiths, Audit and Assurance Group partner with PwC. I will touch on only a few of the highlights from the evening, simply because the conversation moved quite quickly and because we did tape the event.
