Work is underway to adapt more open textbooks for use by students and instructors in British Columbia with today’s open call for proposals to begin the second phase of the project, which will ultimately see 40 open textbooks available for students and instructors in highly enrolled first- and second-year subject areas. The first phase involved faculty reviews of 15 open textbooks, in subject areas ranging from math and chemistry to marketing, psychology, and business. Celebrating the best of the best of the world’s entertainment content, the Rockies is an internationally acclaimed program competition hosted by the Banff World Media Festival that attracts over one thousand entries from more than 40 countries annually. Each year at the Rockie Awards Gala, the Banff World Media Festival honours the immeasurable contribution of some of the biggest names on screen and behind the camera in the industry. The 2014 Banff World Media Festival will be held at the Fairmont Springs Hotel & Convention Centre in Banff June 8 through 11th 2014. Final nominees will be announced in May, 2014. Support for first-person post-disaster survival sim The Long Dark on Kickstarter has been overwhelming. Yesterday, the game was named Project of the Day on Kickstarter, and the number of backers swelled past 3,500. The final push is on in this, the final week of the fundraising campaign, and those backers have pushed Hinterland Games to the 60% mark of its financing target with 8 days to go. A large contingent of Canadian representatives took part in the opening festivities of MIPCOM, the world’s leading entertainment content market across all platforms, which takes place in Cannes from October 7 to 10.
