While the vast majority (83 per cent) of Canadian executives said that fraud prevention and detection is a priority at their organization, only 9 per cent of those surveyed said they have business analytics software designed to help detect fraud running all the time. Following the publication of the Indice entrepreneurial québécois 2011 this past spring, the Fondation de l’entrepreneurship announced earlier today the release of the English version of the 2011 Quebec Entrepreneurship Index, entitled Quebec Entrepreneurship Culture: Are Our Entrepreneurs Taking Root?. Canadian database administrator (DBA) Joe Miller was announced today as the winner of UK-based Red Gate Software’s DBA in Space competition. Miller, who works for RIM, beat 5,500 other entrants in the contest, winning the final round by gaining the highest number of votes both from the public and from an eminent judging panel. After over two million votes, thirty ideas have risen to the top and been chosen as finalists for this year’s Aviva Community Fund competition. The Fund, now in its third year and created by home and auto insurer Aviva Canada, provides $1,000,000 in donations to lead, empower and support community initiatives across the country. (We here at Village Gamer had hoped to see the Youth At Risk project make it into the finals, and while it was close, the joint Abbotsford Police and Fire Department program did not make the top ten medium-sized projects.)
