Just a quick reminder that the award-winning Indie Game: the Movie is doing a one night only screening tomorrow, May 3rd, in 37 select theatres across Canada. This event is presented and made possible by the HotDocs festival. Not only do viewers get to watch the long-awaited show, but immediately following the movie, a live Q&A featuring the filmmakers, James Swirksy & Lisanne Pajot and FEZ creator Phil Fish, will be beamed in via some very impressive satellite technology to each and every theatre showing the film. Findings from Randstad’s latest Global Workmonitor, surveying employees in 32 countries around the world, reveal that most Canadian workers have access to the Internet at work, and nearly half own a private smartphone or device. According to the survey, most Canadian employees report having access to the Internet at work (76%). In Canada alone, 13 per cent of employees say they have a smartphone which includes e-mail that is provided by their employer, while another 47 per cent of respondents report owning a smartphone privately. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has released statistical and financial summaries for Canadian specialty, pay, pay-per-view (PPV) and video-on-demand (VOD) television services. During the past five years, this sector of the broadcasting industry increased its revenues by 36.7%, while profits before interest and taxes margins hovered between 22% and 25%, reflecting a strong demand for these services. Open TextTM Corporation announced yesterday that is has entered into an agreement to acquire EasyLink Services International Corporation, a Georgia-based international provider of cloud-based electronic messaging and business integration services, for $7.25 per share in cash, for a purchase price of approximately $310 million, inclusive of debt.
