Astral‘s Harold Greenberg Fund‘s English-Language Program (Fund) is pleased to announce its latest round of funding for 27 new and ongoing projects through its Script Development Program. The Script Development Program was created to assist in the development of quality Canadian feature film scripts. The program receives a yearly contribution of $1.3 million from Astral’s The Movie Network. The script development applications are reviewed by the English-Language Committee of Astral’s Harold Greenberg Fund, which includes Suzette Couture, Damon D’Oliveira, Melanie Friesen, John Galway, Bryn Matthews, Jane Tattersall and Kevin Wright. The Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) will celebrate the achievements of Canadian organizations that have demonstrated excellence and innovation in their use of information and communications technology (ICT) with the 2013 edition of its Ingenious Awards Program, which opened its call for nominations today. The program celebrates enterprises demonstrating measurable evidence of productivity improvement, efficiency gains, revenue growth, overall business transformation or other organizational outcomes through the use of technology. Organizations may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. The nominations process runs from May 15 to July 15, 2013. The role of information technology (IT) in setting strategic priorities and achieving business success is growing for companies in Canada and around the world, according to new research released today by CompTIA, the non-profit association for the IT industry. More than 80 percent of Canadian businesses surveyed say technology is important or very important to their success; three-quarters plan increases in IT spending this year; and 35 percent have expectations of hiring new IT staff in 2013. The Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN) has announced the winners of the inaugural CDMN Moonshot Awards. The four winning Canadian digital media companies were honoured at CDMN’s Canada 3.0 conference, taking place today and tomorrow at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Awards, presented in four categories, were developed to recognize Canadian companies that create jobs and wealth for Canada through innovation in digital media. Over a thousand young students from underprivileged communities in 23 elementary schools of the Pointe-de-l’Île and Montreal School Boards took part in the third edition of Propulsion, an innovative and unique program designed to encourage student retention through compelling educational projects. The results of their efforts were officially unveiled today at the WB Games Montréal studio. Based on a “learning through play” approach, this year’s project was aimed at Grade 4 to 6 students and involved building amusement rides with LEGO blocks.
