Business Career Expo, Vancouver

https://www.businesscareerexpo.com/home.htm

The 8th Annual Business Career Expo will be held on Friday March 23, 2012. B.C.’s largest annual business-only career fair will include representatives from 100 companies and 1,000+ students and recent alumni from host schools the Beedie School of Business at SFU, the Sauder School of Business at UBC and the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at UVIC. This year’s event will be held at the beautiful downtown Westin Bayshore Hotel Vancouver.

This one day event gives students an excellent opportunity to learn about the types of candidates each organization is seeking, in terms of education, skill set and culture fit. In addition, students are able to highlight the unique assets that they could bring to an organization.

For employers, this is a great opportunity to profile employment opportunities, develop your brand among students and focus your recruitment efforts. In addition, employers will have the opportunity to meet with and identify those students/alumni that they consider ‘must hires’ for their organization.

Employers interested in participating should direct all inquiries to Rochelle Diablo, Business Career Expo Manager, at careerexpo@sfu.ca

“We want to!”
Let’s get together at our newest brewpub on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

This meetup is just for regular discussion, mingling, and good times – just hang out!

Note that the venue has limited capacity and no projectors or anything, it’s just an awesome pub. If you don’t RSVP, there’s no guarantee there’ll be seating for you (or you might have to sit all alone at another table!)

Women In Film Festival, Vancouver

http://www.womeninfilm.ca/filmfestival.html

Founded in 2006, our Vancouver Women in Film Festival is one of only three film festivals in Canada featuring women filmmakers: the other two are Toronto’s Female Eye Film Festival, and the St John’s International Women’s Film Festival. As such, we bring filmmakers and audiences together, offering opportunities for women filmmakers in Western Canada that would not exist without us.

All films screened at VWIFF must be created by women in at least three of the key creative roles (one woman may serve in more than one role): Writer, Producer, Director, D.O.P., Lead Actor, Lead Animator / Editor, or Lead Composer. We encourage submissions featuring strong female characters and stories.

In addition to screening approximately 50 Canadian and International short and feature films (narratives, documentaries, and animation), VWIFF 2012 will include:

* The Spotlight Awards Gala™ on International Women’s Day (includes WIFT International Short Film Showcase screening) – Thursday, March 8, 2012
* Digital Media Masterclass (digital storytelling across multiple platforms) and Networking Reception – Friday, March 9, 2012
* Pitching Sessions – Friday, March 9, 2012
* Film Screenings (10 sessions) – Friday, March 9, 2012 to Sunday, March 11, 2012 – featuring a Yukon Short Film Showcase screening curated by Lulu Keating
* Networking Lunch panel presentation – Saturday, March 10, 2012 – moderated by Carol Whiteman
* Meet the Filmmaker brunch – Sunday, March 11, 2012
* Visual artists, industry exhibits, and equipment demonstrations in the theatre atrium – Friday, March 9, 2012 to Sunday, March 11, 2012

Here’s what filmmakers have to say: “Our film screened at VWIFF in 2011, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The energy and support was infectious. We are looking forward to submitting our next project for next year’s festival.”

The Vancouver Women in Film Festival celebrates these wonderful filmmakers with artists’ fees as well as cash and in-kind awards through the generous support of Legacy Filmworks, Women In the Director’s Chair (Creative Women Workshops Association), Kodak Canada, and a variety of other sponsors.
