Up to six producers from across Canada will be selected to participate in the WFF Feature Project Lab, an intense four-day business and marketplace immersion experience presented by the Whistler Film Festival in association with Telefilm Canada. New for 2013, this program will be held from December 3 to 6, 2013 during the Whistler Film Festival + Summit. Designed to advance Canadian creative talent, the WFF Feature Project Lab focuses on strengthening dramatic feature projects from script to screen by facilitating feedback as well as collaboration on and investment in film projects that have US and international appeal. Established in 2007, the MPPIA Short Film Award provides one filmmaker with the opportunity to further develop their directing career by realizing a unique creative vision in a short film project. Applicants will be short-listed into a field of candidates who will pitch their projects at the 2013 Whistler Film Festival taking place December 4 to December 8. The successful candidate will receive a $15,000 cash award plus services ‘in-kind’ valued up to $100,000 from across the industry, enabling the filmmaker to complete their project with the guidance of experienced industry professionals and support services provided by the top supply houses in British Columbia. In a bold new move, Premier Digital Publishing, in partnership with Gandolfo-Helin Literary Management, Producer Steve Ecclesine, and novelist Jonathan Ryan have announced the launch of an unprecedented film adaptation director contest. Toronto-based DeveloperMedia‘s software dev online community CodeProject has announced that Phil Lee is the grand prize winner of its recent Windows Azure Developer Challenge. Over $16,000 in prizes was awarded to 21 individuals throughout the 10-week Windows Azure Developer Challenge. The contest pitted developers from across the globe against each other in five stages of competitions that incorporated tasks like building a website, using SQL, spinning virtual machines, and building responsive mobile access for their Azure apps. The Casual Games Association (CGA) has announced that it will feature the first North American Indie Prize Showcase at its Casual Connect Conference in San Francisco. The event, launched earlier this year at Casual Connect Europe and Asia events, is expected to feature new games from more than 100 indie development teams. The Indie Prize Showcase is a free program created to reward the industry’s top independent development talent with resources, relationships and recognition. For the first North American event, more than 100 games will be featured on-site at Casual Connect by the development teams who created them.
