Getty Images has announced that Laureen Carruthers from British Columbia has been recognized as the winner and People’s Choice Award recipient for “this is Canada,” a photography competition that gave enthusiasts the opportunity to show off their visual definition of Canada. Judged by a panel of some of Canada’s foremost photographers and industry experts, nearly 5,000 images were submitted to showcase what makes Canadian life unique. Writers of short fiction are encouraged to enter the Alice Munro Writers and Readers Festival’s 2012 Short Story Competition. The competition, originally hosted by the Wingham Horticultural Society, is being revitalized by Huron Arts & Heritage Network this fall with a new name and new dates. With 100 industry professionals from over 20 attending organizations, and more than 60 students from colleges and universities from across Ontario, Mohawk College’s second annual AppsforHealth event was a much anticipated success. The two-day event provided students and professionals with the opportunity to interact and discuss varying perspectives on industry-related issues in relations to current technology.
