Coming to a computer near you: Mind Games. Kerberos Productions, the creators of the Sword of the Stars: The Pit, are pleased to announce a new expansion for their popular science-fiction game. The Mind Games expansion for Sword of the Stars: The Pit will add new playable characters, new game mechanics and new content to the sleeper hit among PC gamers. Players in The Secret World can now enjoy a completely new Lair Raid. The barriers between dimensions are weakening and the players are able to enter the extra dimensional prison, The Island of Stillborn Stars, and battle the brutal Eidolon of the Outer Dark, which awaits them. Eon Altar is a new cooperative role-playing adventure that blends the experience of classic tabletop gaming and modern video games in a Tabletop Video Game. We had a sit-down chat with Flying Helmet Games‘ Project Director Edward Douglas a couple of weeks ago, and found the game and its mechanics to be rather intriguing. Personally, I think that Eon Altar will be a great way to bring back family game night, as it bridges the gap between those of us who played Dungeons & Dragons in high school and our digital kids. The nature of Eon Altar’s game play could also open doors for connecting with kids and encouraging conversation as quests are undertaken, feats are attempted, treasure is uncovered and beasts are defeated. Last month Funcom announced a unique competition where the community could send in their own self-made music. The winning tunes would be implemented into The Secret World where they could be enjoyed by all the players in the game. Funcom is excited to announce that The ‘Get your Music in the Game’ competition has been a great success, all thanks to the combined creative power of the games’ wonderful community. Canadian indie developer Phantom Compass takes its upcoming pinball puzzle role-playing game Rollers of the Realm on several side-quests in March. Rollers brings together the drama of RPGs with the fun and skill mastery of pinball, combining physics puzzle play with a unique nudge mechanic. Each character is a pinball, and each scene in the story is a new pinball board. Players can hot-swap characters during play to combat enemies on each board and protect their vulnerable flippers.
