During the month of March, people who register a Nintendo 3DS^™, Nintendo 3DS XL or Nintendo 2DS^™ system, as well as one of six select Nintendo 3DS games via Club Nintendo, will receive a free code to download either Pokémon^™ X or Pokémon Y, the best-selling Nintendo 3DS games of 2013. The six participating games are Mario Kart^™ 7, Super Mario 3D Land^™, Animal Crossing^™: New Leaf, Donkey Kong Country^™ Returns 3D, LEGO^® City Undercover: The Chase Begins and the upcoming Yoshi’s New Island^™. Releasing today, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze returns fans to a world full of familiar challenges and rewards with new enemies and new abilities – and a reminder that in DK’s world, timing truly is everything. In fact, some levels in this latest iteration of the franchise bring a stark truism to the adage “he who hesitates is lost” because in some levels there really isn’t any time to look around. It took me more than a few lives to get through some levels, as the difficulty at times seemed to ramp up rather quickly – sometimes frustratingly so – but it’s also easy to rack up a healthy store of “back-up lives” in this game, so it’s all good. Canadians may be eagerly waiting for a spring thaw but there’s no one going more bananas over frozen ice than Donkey Kong.  In just three days, the world’s most recognizable primate will finally learn how many bananas were frozen inside a massive block of ice buried deep in the wilderness.    Canadians have until later today, Thursday February 20, to enter the Banana Mania contest at Nintendo of Canada’s Facebook page. You hear that? That’s the sound of bananas being peeled across Canada to celebrate the glorious launch of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The newest game in the lauded Donkey Kong Country series swings to the Wii U system on February 21, bringing with it beautiful high-definition graphics, cleverly designed platforming action and competitive online leaderboards. Nintendo detailed major announcements for its Wii U home console and Nintendo 3DS portable system in the first Nintendo Direct of 2014. Launch dates and details for multiple games were revealed, including new characters in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and Mario Kart 8 for Wii U. Nintendo also announced specifics about the addition of Game Boy Advance games to the Wii U Virtual Console service. NES Remix 2 is also on the way, complete with a Luigi-themed surprise. For any Nintendo fan, November 22 is going to be one of the best days of the year. On Friday, three new games in three extraordinary franchises are launching on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems. Super Mario 3D World for Wii U, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems and Mario Party: Island Tour, also for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, are all launching in stores and in the Nintendo eShop. A December system update for the Nintendo 3DS portable system will allow users to combine their Nintendo eShop account balance for both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Nintendo announced the news during a Nintendo Direct video released earlier today. After the Nintendo 3DS system update, users can register their Nintendo Network ID for Wii U on their Nintendo 3DS systems and combine Nintendo eShop account balances. This will enable them to purchase Wii U software using the remaining balance on their Nintendo 3DS eShop accounts, and vice versa.
