Lionsgate To Receive Distinction Honour At Banff World Media Festival 2014
The BANFF World Media Festival has announced that global entertainment producer Lionsgate will be the Company of Distinction honored at this year’s Festival, being held from June 8 – 11, 2014 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, in Banff. As the Company of Distinction, executives, producers and talent from Lionsgate will be featured during the four-day Festival in different facets of the event. The Company of Distinction program, which was introduced in 2013 with CBS Corporation, allows the Festival to pay homage each year to a company demonstrating significant leadership in the world of screen-based entertainment.
“We are very proud to announce Lionsgate as BANFF’s 2014 Company of Distinction,” said Barbara Williams, SVP Content, Shaw Media, and the Chair of the Banff Foundation Board of Directors. “Lionsgate is one of the most important and innovative independent production and distribution companies in the industry and it’s our honor to celebrate them during the 35th anniversary event.”
“The Banff World Media Festival is one of the world’s leading television and digital media events, and the Banff team shares our entrepreneurial culture and innovative spirit,” said Kevin Beggs, Chairman, Lionsgate Television Group. “We’ve had a successful partnership with BANFF for many years and we’re truly excited to have the opportunity to be honored during such a significant year for the Festival.”
Lionsgate is a leading global entertainment company with a strong and diversified presence in motion picture production and distribution, television programming and syndication, home entertainment, family entertainment, digital distribution, new channel platforms, and international distribution and sales. Lionsgate’s television business includes 34 shows on 22 different networks, including such iconic brands as Mad Men, Weeds and Nurse Jackie and emerging hits such as Anger Management, Nashville and Orange is the New Black. The continuing growth of Lionsgate’s television business has been fueled by diversification into TV series built around the company’s unique 10+90 model, original content for digital platforms, selective forays into broadcast network series and a growing presence in nonfiction programming.
“Lionsgate is extremely deserving of the Company of Distinction award,” said Ferne Cohen, Executive Director of BANFF. “Their remarkable success, the diversity of their programming and their visionary approach to the global television business are to be celebrated, and we know that our delegates will benefit greatly by hearing directly from top Lionsgate executives, producers and talent at this year’s Festival.”
