ZenFri On The Global Market Potential of Clandestine Anomaly

zenfriCorey King, Chief Executive Artist of Winnipeg indie game developer ZenFri Inc. says that Google’s big reveal of its “secret project” – an augmented reality (AR) espionage game, “Ingress” that plays out in the real world – is proof positive that his company’s groundbreaking game in development for iOS and Android, “Clandestine: Anomaly” has global market potential.

“Ingress is a “Capture the Flag” style game, where you compete to get to a particular real-world location” said King. “Clandestine: Anomaly is a “tower defense” game where you deploy weapons platforms to defend your own community, which is the front line in an interplanetary covert war.”

King has been working on Clandestine: Anomaly with a team of artists and writers for over 18 months. In May 2012, he pitched the game to the Canadian Media Fund (CMF) which announced in July 2012 that they would invest $248,000 in the game’s development, which is now underway. The game features an original, epic sci-fi universe and utilizes bleeding edge technology to create an unparalleled immersive experience on your mobile phones and tablets.

ZenFri’s pan-Canadian project includes professionals with credits on video game titles that include Rango, Indiana Jones, Monster Lab, Diner Dash as well as design and CGI for the motion picture Avatar, and Gemini-award-winning music and sound design for TV and major motion pictures, including CTV’s Corner Gas.

King said he was struck by some of the similarities in the games – which both involve being part of a secret network and real-world locations for gameplay.

“It’s the old saying: great minds think alike. Augmented reality lends itself to the idea of an espionage game – that there’s  another level of reality that exists beneath what we can see,” he said. “Our goal is to use that technology along with a really compelling story to create a game that makes you think, ‘This is really happening.’ – and bring a bit of the indie spirit to what promises to be a new game genre.”
