The Gaming, Graphics, Animation and New Media Network of Centres of Excellence (“GRAND”) in association with Wavefront, and the Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN), is pleased to announce that it will be presenting four full day workshops across Western Canada in November. The general theme of the workshops is Creating Opportunities for Canada’s Wireless and Digital Media Researchers, Developers, Startups and SMEs.

• Calgary – November 8, 2012 at University of Calgary

Cost: Free, pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided.

Time: 8:30am to 4:00pm

 

The workshops will provide a forum for the communication of research results and highlight the development of innovative gaming, graphics, animations, new digital media and wireless technologies originating at Canada’s universities.

In addition, the workshops will offer a networking opportunity for researchers to meet with potential industry/technology receptors and to increase awareness and understanding of industry’s wireless and digital media needs and problems.

The goal is to stimulate discussions between industry, researchers, government funding agencies, and the venture capital community and to establish relationships that might lead to spin-off and start-up companies built on the innovative work emerging from Canada’s research labs.

Technology transfer and commercialization will be a major topic and the workshops will identify the process for acquiring technologies from Canada’s universities and include discussions on IP protection and possible transfer/commercialization avenues.

Due to space constraints the workshop can only accommodate 80 participants.  Please register early to make an oral/poster presentation and/or sit in as a participant.
