Frontier Opens Game Development Studio in Nova Scotia
Cambridge, UK based Frontier Developments Ltd. has announced that it is opening a new game development studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. According to KPMG’s 2012 Competitive Alternatives report, Halifax ranks number one for cost competitiveness in video game production out of all global mature markets surveyed, and is in the top 10 out of all global mature and developing markets.
“Halifax has been on our radar as an attractive geographic and commercial environment within which we could create games since we met Nova Scotia Business Inc. a few years ago,” said David Walsh, Frontier’s COO and President of the new Frontier Developments, Inc.
“The local universities produce talented graduates and the area is home to a growing cluster of indie developers, tech and media companies. This helped us to quickly establish the foundations of our studio in Halifax with a team that has a great mix of skills to complement our people in the UK, and expand our overall capacity.”
Recognized worldwide as one of the leading innovators in videogame development and technology, Frontier creates games for all leading platforms including game consoles, smartphones, tablets and PC. CEO David Braben is also a founding member of the charitable enterprise Raspberry Pi, which produces a very low cost credit-card sized computer that is intended to revolutionize the way kids all over the world learn programming.
“We are excited about opening an office in Halifax, our first outside of the UK, ” said David Braben, Founder and CEO of Frontier Developments Ltd. ”The studio will be up and running during August, collaborating with our teams in the UK. We are looking forward to working together with our new colleagues, integrating quickly into the Halifax area and making a positive contribution to the Nova Scotia business community.”
“Frontier is exactly the type of world-class developer we want to attract to the province,” said Stephen Lund, President and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc. “Nova Scotia is now globally recognized as fertile ground for leading game development companies. We welcome Frontier to Nova Scotia and we look forward to celebrating their continued successes.”
