Cologix Adds Major Square Footage in Downtown Toronto Data Centres
Cologix™, a Colorado-based network neutral interconnection and colocation company, has announced a 20,000 SQF expansion into 905 King Street West, Toronto’s newest interconnection center and a simultaneous 3,000 SQF expansion to existing facilities in 151 Front Street.
The new Tier 3 data center at 905 King is currently under construction and the first phase is expected to be ready for service in Q4 2012, offering purpose built data center space and broad connectivity choice for service providers and network buyers alike. The 151 Front Street expansion will come on line early in Q3 2012.
Cologix’s existing 151 Front Street facility has enjoyed significant growth from carrier and financial segments and now represents over 28,000 SQF of occupied space. As 151 Front Street nears capacity for tenants and carrier neutral colocation, the new data center at 905 King becomes crucial to meeting interconnection demand. Cologix has teamed with the owner of 151 Front Street, Allied Properties REIT, to open 905 King as a second downtown network neutral data center to support continued growth. “We have heard resoundingly from our customers and the broader carrier community that the need for new network neutral space in the downtown core is acute,” says Cologix Chief Operating Officer Todd Coleman, “We are investing to meet that need.”
905 King was redeveloped by Allied Properties REIT with the express purpose of serving as the sister data center to 151 Front Street, Canada’s largest and most important interconnection point. 905 King Street is located in downtown Toronto, very close to 151 Front Street and is connected by a newly built diverse metro fiber ring, which has better than 0.016 Millisecond latency between the two sites. “We are delighted to welcome a sophisticated operator like Cologix into 905 King,” said Doug Riches, Director Mission Critical Facilities at Allied Properties REIT. “The new facility will create a natural extension of 151 Front Street for carriers to meet network demand and serve as a standalone facility that can be fully redundant from 151 Front Street.”
The full 20,000 SQF expansion will support a power density of 150 watts per SQF and over 530 cabinets. With its modular design and state-of-the-art cooling, Cologix can support high density customer applications in excess of 8 kW per cabinet. Additionally, the multiple generators enable customer-specific power redundancy configurations including N, N+1, and 2N redundancy.
In addition to the Toronto presence, Cologix operates in the Harbour Centre in Vancouver, six data centers throughout Montreal including the only carrier hotel at 1250 Rene Levesque and in the Dallas Infomart. This expansion further marks Cologix as the largest interconnection and colocation provider in Canada.
