Brampton Shop Set to Give Away Thousands of Free Comic Books

mini-orbyStadium Comics, located at Shoppers World Mall in Brampton, is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the comic book art form on Saturday, May 5th. On Free Comic Book Day, over two million comic books will be given away by participating stores, introducing as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books.

“This year’s Free Comic Book Day is going to be a blast. We’ll have contests, raffles, giveaways, and of course free comics!” said Kevin Hickey, Manager of Stadium Comics. “But what makes our event extra special is the local artistic talent we are bringing into the store to sign books and sketch for the fans.”

Among the over one dozen guests scheduled to appear at Stadium Comics for the event are comic creators such as Red Robin, Huntress, and Batwing artist Marcus To, X-23 and NYX artist Kalman Andrasofszky, Toronto Radio/TV Personality “Fearless Fred” Kennedy, and Shaun Hatton, host of G4TV’s The Electric Playground and Reviews on the Run.

Now in its eleventh year, Free Comic Book Day has proven to be a smashing success, spreading the word that comics are terrific reading for all ages. “Even if you have never picked up a comic book, stop into Stadium Comics, because you never know what you’ll end up finding.”

“Ours has grown to be one of the largest Free Comic Book Day celebrations in Canada,” Hickey continued. “There are a lot of people in the Greater Toronto Area who love comic books, and we are proud to be able to host an event of this size here in Brampton.”

Comic Books have been propelled to the front ranks of pop culture, with many being adapted into movies. The Avengers hits the big screen on May 5th, and big-screen adaptations of other titles like Batman: The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man will be in theatres this summer. “It looks like 2012 is going to be a another great year to be a fan of comic books!”

Free Comic Book Day kicks off at 9:30am on May 5th and runs until 6:00pm. Stadium Comics has been serving the Greater Toronto Area for over twenty years, and provides its customers with the latest in comic books, toys, t-shirts, and pop-culture merchandise.
