Canadian Video Game Awards Winners

Canadian Video Game Awards [1]The Canadian Videogame Awards [1] were handed out in Vancouver Saturday evening, with indie developed game Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP from Capybara Games in Toronto and Eidos-Montreal’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution each taking home five awards. FIFA Soccer 12 from Electronic Arts was the public’s choice for Game of the Year, and NHL 12 from Electronic Arts was named the top selling videogame in Canada. Other individual winners included Margaritaville Online from Exploding Barrel Games, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012, both from Ubisoft Montreal.  All the awards were for work developed in Canada and released in 2011.

I have a large collection of photos to add to our photo album from both Fan Expo and the awards evening, which for the first time Canadian Video Game Awards Host David Hayter [2]featured a red carpet walk thanks to Future Shop [3]. Without a doubt, this was the best CVA event, and I think it will only get better as the show matures. While not every game I was rooting for won an award, it’s great to see our Canadian development teams and studios getting the recognition they deserve. The highlight of the evening for me was meeting voice actress Jennifer Hale, who gives voice to my favourite game character, female Shepard in Mass Effect 3. I’ve been posting some of our photos in our Twitter feed [4], but watch for the full album to appear in our gallery over the next few days.

David Hayter did an incredible job as the evening’s host, and those who will be watching the show’s broadcast events on CityTV and G4 Canada are in for a treat. A 60-minute special of the Canadian Videogame Awards is scheduled to air on Citytv on April 28, 2012 at 8:00 pm, as well as on G4 Canada on April 28 & 29, 2012.

“Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees tonight,” said Victor Lucas, executive producer of The Electric Playground [5] and CVA co-founder, “the games we saw at the show this evening are world-class and illustrate once again that Canadian game developers are second to none when it comes to creating interactive entertainment!”
