SMPIA Announces New Name, Awards Partnership with SaskInteractive
At last week’s Annual General Meeting of the Saskatchewan Motion Picture Industry Association, members approved two strategic changes recognizing the shift in content production towards digital media.
In recognition that one third of its membership now being comprised of interactive professionals including developers and social media professionals, the membership voted to change SMPIA’s name to the “Saskatchewan Media Production Industry Association” and secured two dedicated interactive positions on the Board. Members Annelise Larson from Veria Search Media Marketing and Dwayne Melcher of Melcher Media & Design were elected to these new positions.
It was also announced that for the first time, SMPIA’s Showcase Awards and SaskInteractive’s SIMA Awards will be held in partnership. The event will occur on November 22nd, 2012 in Regina.

SMPIA (Saskatchewan Media Production Industry Association) is a provincial, member-based non-profit organization that is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Established in 1985, SMPIA acts as an advocate for all personnel related to the making and exhibiting of film, video and interactive media, from beginners to professionals. SMPIA’s job is to be a catalyst for change, to facilitate interaction between people working in these media, and to help to create an environment that provides opportunities for the production, promotion and appreciation of media production in Saskatchewan.
