posted in New Releases By: | Print This Post Print This Post

Toronto – Microïds, one of the leading adventure games producers and publishers, owner of the Syberia franchise, and Dreamcatcher, a leading publisher of interactive entertainment software, announce they have signed an exclusive agreement to publish and distribute the Syberia video game on Nintendo DS™ in North America.

Produced by Microïds and developed by Tetraedge Games, Syberia will be released in December 2008 and published by Dreamcatcher in North America.

Roch Roustan, Microïds’ Managing Director, comments: “We are thrilled to partner with Dreamcatcher for our adaptation of Benoît Sokal’s best-seller game on Nintendo DS. Dreamcatcher’s seasoned and passionate team will ensure Kate Walker a large exposure in the North America markets”.

Syberia on Nintendo DS

While trying to remain faithful to the famous original PC game, developers redesigned the DS version, puzzle by puzzle, to optimize the specific features of Nintendo DS and make full use of the stylus. The aim is to provide gamers with a more immersive experience by allowing them to control their movements directly – a truly different way of playing or replaying Syberia.

Furthermore, Microïds is determined to offer an intuitive game with a simplified ergonomic interface. For example, the inventory will be coupled with a scaled-down, dynamic inventory always available on the touch-sensitive screen; the dialog interface will offer more enjoyable 2D encounters… Similarly, the graphics will also be optimized for the console to maintain all the beauty of the original: the Tetraedge engine displays real 3D characters in pre-generated, but remastered scenes perfectly geared towards DS. The cutscenes (approximately 15 minutes) and soundtrack will be adapted to the performance of Nintendo DS format, but kept in their entirety.

About Syberia
For Kate Walker, a young and ambitious lawyer, it seemed to be a done deal. Just enough time to wrap up the takeover deal for the old Voralberg robot factory hidden in the depths of an alpine valley before heading back to New York. When she accepted the brief, she had no idea that her life would be turned upside-down. From west to east, on the trail of a genius inventor, she must travel the length and breadth of Europe aboard an enigmatic train, crossing the destiny of some extraordinary people. Her journey through time and space will shatter her beliefs… and the contract that she was supposed to sign will seal her fate.

An original story created by Benoît Sokal, author of Amerzone. Syberia is a magical, contemporary adventure drawing its inspiration from the defining events of the 20th century. Exceptional graphics. An unrivalled, unique atmosphere.
