An overwhelming response to the annual Women in Games Scholarship offered by Vancouver Film School (VFS) has led to the unprecedented announcement of four recipients. Janel Jolly of Canada, Nicha Jaijadesuk of Thailand, Jaymee Mak of Australia, and Anna Prein of Russia have all been awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the one-year Game Design program. More than $300,000 in prizes are waiting to be scooped up by emerging companies in BC’s technology space through the annual BCIC-New Ventures Competition, which kicks off this week. Now in its 13th year, the competition has welcomed over 1,400 early?stage tech entrepreneurs since 2001, all with a dream to turn their concepts into reality. Canadian indie developer Phantom Compass takes its upcoming pinball puzzle role-playing game Rollers of the Realm on several side-quests in March. Rollers brings together the drama of RPGs with the fun and skill mastery of pinball, combining physics puzzle play with a unique nudge mechanic. Each character is a pinball, and each scene in the story is a new pinball board. Players can hot-swap characters during play to combat enemies on each board and protect their vulnerable flippers. CDMN Canada 3.0 2013, Canada’s only national digital media conference focused on the commercialization of innovation, will feature world-class speakers, a wide-ranging program and showcase of Canadian entrepreneurship when it gets under way May 14 and 15, 2013 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
