NEC brand VALUESTAR PC Chooses ViXS XCode 5000

vixsViXS Systems Inc. has announced that the XCode5106 is the media processor single chip System on Chip (SoC) powering NEC Personal Computer’s TV tuner module in the VALUESTAR W and N series All-in-One Desktop PCs.  The VALUESTAR PC integrates all the functions of today’s desktop PC into the LCD screen making this is a very compact and space- saving design.   The integration capability of the XC5106 allows all the TV functions to be integrated on a small PCIe card, helping to save space and cost.

Running on the TV tuner card in the NEC brand VALUESTAR W and N series of PC, the XCode 5106 is designed to provide content protection and digital rights management (DRM) for premium digital content.  The XCode 5106 simultaneously allows the PC to: view live TV; perform a quad audio and video transcode to support recording of two HD channel on the hard disk, and; transcode two audio and video streams to two mobile devices.   The commercial availability of quad transcoding on the XCode 5106 enables a level of media processing previously requiring the use of multiple devices.

“NEC required a high-performance and highly-integrated media processing engine to address the challenges of integrating the desk top capabilities of the PC including hard disk drive, Blu-ray, and other peripherals, as well as supporting watch TV, dual channel PVR, and streaming content in real time to mobile devices. ViXS was able to deliver on the design criteria to make this a successful product launch” said Hideaki Kato, Senior Vice President NEC Personal Computers.

“We are very pleased to be chosen by NEC Personal Computers as the media processing engine for the digital TV tuning card in the VALUESTAR W and N series of All-in-One Desktop PCs.   The XCode 5000 series has set a milestone in media processing and transcoding capabilities and we are pleased to have met the rigorous requirement for performance, media processing, power consumption and small form factor,” said David Jones, Vice President Marketing and Business Development of ViXS Systems Inc.
