D-Link Expands xStack Storage Family of Products

d-linkD-Link Canada has announced the DSN-4000 Series xStack® Storage iSCSI SAN Array, which will deliver increased flexibility and scalability for secondary server applications such as disaster recovery, backup, surveillance, and archiving. With the DSN-4000 series, small to mid-size enterprises can leverage cost-effective network storage offering volume virtualization, high transactional and throughput performance, guaranteed interoperability with the host environment and ultimately a greater return on investment when compared with competing systems.

The DSN-4000 series provides a robust and flexible architecture allowing IT managers to easily manage and expand capacity and performance to meet evolving storage requirements. D-Link’s open architecture supports mixing non-proprietary SAS and SATA disk drives of various manufacturers, capacities, and speeds, making the DSN-4000 series ideal for storage tiering while supporting multiple applications simultaneously. In addition, the DSN-4000 series offers advanced volume virtualization capabilities – any available disk capacity can be used by any requesting volume; volume expansion, reconfiguration and migration can be implemented on the fly without interruption to data access; drives are not bay specific and disk roaming between different xStack Storage SAN array models is supported.

“Storage vendors often offer solutions based on proprietary architectures, which can be restricting for small-to-medium sized businesses,” said Liz Conner, senior research analyst, Storage Systems and Personal Storage, IDC. “D-Link’s open architecture provides businesses with the opportunity to choose from a variety of drive manufacturers in order to scale storage networks in a manner that best fits their performance, capacity, and budgetary needs.”

The DSN-4000 series includes the DSN-4100 and DSN-4200 xStack Storage iSCSI SAN arrays available in a 3U form factor supporting up to 32TB of raw capacity with 16 SAS/SATA drive bays. In addition, the DSN-4000 series supports expansion to 48 drive bays (96TB of raw capacity). Both models are stackable and include a single system-on-a-chip iSCSI controller capable of over 80,000 IOPS for processing intensive applications including audio and video post-production.

The DSN-4100 includes (4) 1 GbE data ports providing throughput up to 425MB per second and the DSN-4200 includes (8) 1 GbE data ports providing throughput up to 850MB per second, ideal for bandwidth intensive applications such as IP surveillance and data backup. Also available is the DSN-4000 16-Bay Expansion Array for the DSN-4100 and DSN-4200.

The DSN-4000 series offers extended warranty options, keeping systems covered for up to eight years, as well as next business day hardware replacement while under warranty. D-Link does not require service contracts to access firmware upgrades at no cost, ensuring IT managers receive hassle-free, industry leading support.

“D-Link underscores its commitment to the storage market with the superior economic value offered through D-Link’s affordable solutions, professional support and flexible architecture,” said Chris Gruber, director of product marketing, Storage Solutions, D-Link. “The DSN-4000 series is just the latest example of D-Link’s line of feature-rich, easy-to-manage, expandable solutions for IT managers looking to future-proof their storage networks and eliminate pre-planning short falls.”

D-Link strives to ensure that IT managers at small-to-mid-size enterprises can operate network data centers easily by providing complete end-to-end networking solutions. D-Link offers a breadth of networking solutions ranging from IP cameras and surveillance technologies to network switches and wireless access points, to network-attached storage and high-performance iSCSI SAN arrays, to professional support services. By integrating a unified D-Link solution, customers can simplify technology troubleshooting with a single support call. In addition, channel partners that resell D-Link solutions can leverage D-Link professional services for ongoing revenue as they develop their own service capabilities.

The DSN-4000 series models will be available in November, with estimated street pricing as follows:

— D-Link DSN-4100 3U 16-bay, 4xGbE xStack Storage iSCSI SAN array – $5,924.99*
— D-Link DSN-4200 3U 16-bay, 8xGbE xStack Storage iSCSI SAN array – $6,979.99*
— D-Link DSN-4000 3U 16-Bay Expansion Array for DSN-4100/DSN-4200 – $3,599.99*
