Ten Canadian women directors and actors who have had an outstanding year have been selected by a pan-Canadian jury of journalists specializing in the arts, culture and entertainment. The Canadian Videogame Awards (CVAs) is pleased to announce celebrated videogame actor Mark Meer as the new host for the 5th annual ceremony, taking place November 21st at The Carlu in the heart of downtown Toronto. Mark Meer is a Canadian actor that has appeared in several world-class videogames, including the Mass Effect franchise, the Dragon Age franchise and the highly anticipated 2014 release, The Long Dark. The Casual Games Association, the host of Casual Connect USA, declared 13 winners of the Indie Prize Showcase during a special awards ceremony. This showcase was sponsored by Facebook, Everyplay, Unity, and SKYmobi, with award prizes donated by Unity, App Promo, Photon Realtime, deltaDNA, 5th Planet Games, Intel, polljoy, Splitforce, Plantronics, Marmalade and Everyplay. Nominations opened today for games developed in 2014 for the 5th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards (CVAs), taking place November 21st at The Carlu in the heart of downtown Toronto. With the move to an autumn format, this year’s show will present awards from 2013 and a portion of 2014. As one of the largest producers of videogames in the world, the show will celebrate Canada’s spot on the world stage as a leader in interactive entertainment. SIGGRAPH 2014 is pleased to announce the 41st annual Computer Animation Festival award recipients for Best in Show, Jury Award, Best Student Project, Best Animated Short, and Best Visual Effects, among others. Telefilm Canada invites producers to submit their feature films to the pan-Canadian Oscar selection committee for a chance to represent Canada for consideration as a possible nominee in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 87th Academy Awards. In order to be considered, films must have been released commercially in theatres for at least seven consecutive days between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014 in 35 mm, 70 mm or Digital Cinema Package (DCP)1 format. Well-known Vancouver actor, director, writer and musician Mackenzie Gray is making a splash – yet again – at BC’s prestigious Leo Awards. His Film Noir short Under The Bridge Of Fear was originally created for the 2013 Crazy 8’s filmmaking challenge and has since screened at the Cannes Festival, Whistler Film Festival, Vancouver Film Festival and has been purchased for broadcast this summer by the CBC.
