Rollers of the Realm Destined For iPad With Canada Media Fund Support

phantom compass [1]Rollers of the Realm [2], an innovative combination of classic arcade pinball and fantasy role-playing games,  is now destined for iPad in addition to desktop computers and Xbox Live Indie Games through the support of the Canada Media Fund [3].
An official selection of the 2012 Canadian Interactive Showcase [4], Rollers of the Realm is a medieval mashup for both casual and hardcore gamers worldwide. A cast of pinball characters with unique abilities and physics flip, bounce, and spin across the Realm. A young pickpocket in search of her lost dog stumbles into an epic adventure, rallying a band of misfits to confront an ancient evil and unite a realm at war.

Developed and produced by Phantom Compass [1], an independent game studio with an office at nGen [5] in St. Catharines, Rollers of the Realm is on target for completion in early 2013, when it will be made available on as many platforms and marketplaces as possible.

In development since late 2011, the game has already garnered recognition among fans and independent media. TorontoThumbs.com [7]’s preview of the game declared that “pinball goodness and RPG conventions have been blended expertly.” The AFK Podcast said “it’s casual and it’s awesome… this is the game!”

Phantom Compass founder Tony Walsh can’t wait to reveal more about the project as production continues. “With the help of the CMF, Rollers Of The Realm will thrill a massive audience of iPad gamers hungry for fresh independent games. Reaction from game publishers and distributors as well as fans has been overwhelmingly positive — Rollers Of The Realm seems to hit an untapped sweet spot between two classic game genres.”

Game Producer Ericka Evans said, “The story will capture people’s hearts. The Realm is a rich world full of intertwined stories that are begging to be told. Each chapter rolls out as a series of pinball boards. The characters are quirky, with a raw quality people will relate to. Each character has a unique background, attitude, style and special ability revealed as the tale unfolds.”
