The Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA) is pleased to announce the official welcoming of Mr. Steve Palmer as the latest addition to the Executive Team. Mr Palmer is the former long-time Executive Director of the Canadian Police Research Centre and recently retired from Defence Research and Development Canada – Community Safety and Security Program (DRDC-CSSP) as their Director, Science and Technology Transition, for the Canadian Safety and Security program including the Emergency Responder Testing and Evaluation Establishment (ERTEE) in Regina.

Mr. Palmer will continue to champion many of CATA’s ongoing public safety initiatives and will be spearheading the creation of a new advisory board comprised of Canada’s leading authorities in emergency response and technology solution providers.

“I look forward to continuing to advance the important work that CATA has undertaken towards strengthening the relationship between public safety and industry leaders,” says Mr. Palmer. “I have had the pleasure of collaborating with the CATA team for many years as a public safety official, and the opportunity of working alongside them in a much more intrinsic fashion seems a natural next step in my career and allows me to continue to address the critical technologically-based challenges facing Canada’s public safety community.”

One of Mr. Palmer’s first initiatives will be to establish a public safety advisory committee comprised of responders, industry leaders, and academics, whose role will be to expand public safety related research, events, and advocacy needs. He will also continue to be instrumentally involved in the annual First Responder Vendor Outreach Forums, monthly public safety webcast series, and advancing the first responder technology transfer and procurement portal currently in its early planning stage.

Live Webcast Discussion with Steve Palmer

On April 11 at 1 PM EST join Steve Palmer and CATA’s VP Research Kevin Wennekes in a discussion on the expected impact to CATA’s public safety mandate and obtain an overview of some of the current and future plans already in development.

The session will introduce Steve Palmer as an Executive in Residence at CATA and his focus on how to enhance the linkage of the CATA Innovation nation to opportunities and challenges facing the public safety sector in Canada and internationally. With Kevin Wennekes they will present the vision for the CATA public safety agenda including the new Public Safety Advisory Board, key business networking events and the theme of this years series of public safety webinars, “Innovation and the Economics of Public Safety and Security “.

A Q&A session will follow, allowing for participant feedback and advice on strategic direction. There is no cost but a limited number of lines are available, so register now if you are interested in participating. Priority consideration will be provided to CATA members and recognized public safety representatives.
