Online science education company Spongelab Interactive has released a free online playable version of Knowledge Mine, a trivia game that combines puzzle genres to challenge and reward players’ knowledge of biology. Knowledge Mine is a science quiz title intended for high school and post secondary students.
The game converses players with over 3,500 questions in such topics as biochemistry, human anatomy, genetics, ecology, zoology, science history, evolution and more. Designed as a study and review tool for grade 7-12 science students, the game can be played in any web browser and requires a free Spongelab account.
“In Knowledge Mine, players will answer tough questions about trophic levels, Punnett squares and more,” says Dr. Jeremy Friedberg, lead game designer and co-founder of Spongelab Interactive. “Find out what’s in your own mine of knowledge!”
Players must traverse a landscape full of knowledge “mines” which they can dig into and complete blocks of questions in a puzzle gem game, boosting their score to progress to new levels. Compete for scores on a global leaderboard to earn bragging rights in your class! Questions in Knowledge Mine range from ecosystem energy calculation to biodiversity picture puzzles, and are graded from easy to hard. Players are rewarded for answering faster, but can lose points if they guess incorrectly. Along with a suite of bonus power-ups to help freeze time or win combo explosions, players can unlock hints to help them get from checkpoint to checkpoint.
The release of Spongelab’s latest game is accompanied by the public beta testing of Dragon Breeder, an educational game about genetic theory, which can also be played for free on the Spongelab online platform. Spongelab’s interactive games are designed with the 21st century learner in mind, and can be integrated into the Spongelab platform’s toolset of online teaching tools that enable content to be deployed to the classroom and tracked through user metrics.
All of Spongelab’s award-winning content is available for free on Spongelab’s global science community. To start using all the features, animations, interactives, images and games, sign up for a free account at Spongelab.com and start playing with science.
