viscountViscount Systems, a Burnaby-based high technology supplier of security systems and software is pleased to announce that the company has completed a project for Microsoft Global Security called the Good Samaritan Project. The Good Samaritan Project is designed to create a social network of employees to reply to and assist in the event of emergencies by using the Freedom security platform to integrate Microsoft Kinect software with Microsoft Windows phones through an Azure Cloud application.

When the Kinect software identifies an emergency condition, Freedom Cloud software is used to identify staff in the relevant Freedom access control zone to send an emergency assistance message on their Windows phone. Viscount’s Freedom technology uses advanced IP-based architecture to enable physical security systems to run as a software application on a network, significantly reducing hardware costs and improving security.

“We were very excited to be invited to participate in this project,” noted Stephen Pineau, President and CEO of Viscount. “As the first company to design physical access control as a software application, Microsoft recognized our unique ability for our Freedom platform to talk directly to Microsoft Active Directory, mobile applications, and the Microsoft Windows Azure Cloud. This provides real time alert and response capability in a mobile environment to improve both security and life safety. Kinect has a wide range of applications to security and we are exploring a number of additional projects.”
