IGLOO Announces Contextual Microblogging for the Enterprise

igloo communitiesIGLOO has announced the introduction of contextual microblogging to its award-winning collaboration suite. The addition is part of IGLOO’s Winter 2012 release unveiled during the Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit in Florida.

The release of IGLOO’s microblogging application introduces a communication stream to an integrated set of cutting-edge social technologies and document sharing tools. But unlike standalone ‘Twitter-like services for the enterprise’, IGLOO provides context by integrating those conversations directly within a user’s existing workflow, instead of forcing them to switch to a separate and disconnected tool.

“The problem with today’s standalone microblogging products is that they are a fire hose of information that is not always relevant to who you are or what you are working on,” said Dan Latendre, CEO of IGLOO Software. “With contextual microblogging, IGLOO has enabled users to participate in conversations in the context of what they are working on and to share in a much more targeted way.”

IGLOO enables more targeted sharing based on the notion of audiences. Business users can tune into conversations based on their role, permissions and the groups they belong to. They can choose who and what they follow, embed those feeds into specific spaces and participate much more efficiently in business conversations, as they work.

In addition to microblogging, other new capabilities also introduced in this release include:

  • Addition of personal dashboards for managing information, conversation and connections
  • Ability for more ad hoc team formation and for space administrators to better manage members
  • Enhancements to online status to enable both default and customizable selections
  • Incorporation of polling as an out-of-the-box application that can be easily embedded on a page

IGLOO delivers new releases on a 90 day cycle through its Software as a Service (SaaS) architecture, making sure that each customer can immediately take advantage of the latest innovations in enterprise social technology. The Winter 2012 release was rolled out to all IGLOO customers on March 3.
