At a commemorative breakfast in Los Angeles yesterday morning, Telefilm Canada Executive Director Carolle Brabant was officially honoured as one of The Hollywood Reporter’s “13 Female Power-Players Who Rule the World“, the newly created sidebar for the trade publication’s annual Top 100 Power Women in Entertainment list. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Women in Entertainment, which has recognized in the past industry heavyweights such as Disney’s Anne Sweeney, Sony’s Amy Pascal, OWN’s Oprah Winfrey, NBCU’s Bonnie Hammer and A&E Network’s Abbe Raven. Ms. Brabant is the only Canadian industry player selected for 2011.
“I am deeply honoured to be included on The Hollywood Reporter’s Women In Entertainment issue,” said Carolle Brabant. “For me, this is also a tribute to all Canadian women who are committed to achieving their highest potential within the global entertainment and media industries, as well as to preserving the legacy of women within arts and culture. Telefilm Canada is a strong supporter of women feature film directors and is dedicated to promoting diversity in all its forms.”
As selected by The Hollywood Reporter journalists, inclusion in Women in Entertainment lists is based on the marketplace experience of honourees. First published in 1930 as Hollywood’s first daily entertainment industry trade paper, The Hollywood Reporter is today one of two major U.S. publications focused on the entertainment industry.
