A kids’ game created by B.C. moms to kick-start imagination and get families talking is getting scooped up by families with travel plans for the holidays. Spark Story Starters, sold in 60 locations across Canada from Vancouver Island to Quebec, is getting accolades for entertaining and connecting families during long car rides and airplane trips.
The word is out that Spark keeps kids busy in the car or on the plane. People are coming into my store looking for Spark cards to take with them on trips to see family for the holidays. ” says Vanessa Gammel, owner of Tumbleweed Toys in Kamloops.
This is one of those things that is priceless on a road trip or airplane ride. With a little imagination and a little Spark, you can be entertained for hours!” writes quietsong56 in an App Store review.
According to a report released by the Kaiser Family Foundation this past year, 8-18 year-olds devote an average of 7 hours and 38 minutes using entertainment media on typical day (more than 53 hours a week).
We think that vacation time provides a wonderful opportunity to ‘unplug’ and connect with family,” says Spark Your Imagination co-owner Tamara Vukusic. ‘And we are hearing again and again that Spark is helping families to do just that.”
Spark Story Starters is a collection of 50 scenarios to kick-start the imagination, encourage problem-solving and get kids talking. It is also available as a bilingual app (English/French) for iPhone and iPad ($1.99) and for Android ($.99). It has been downloaded in 44 countries and held the #2 top-selling educational app position on the App Store for several days earlier this year.
Two new Spark Your Imagination games for kids were unveiled last month – SUPER Story Starters with illustrations for younger kids and Story Starters DRAW, the first ever drawing sheets designed to get an entire family story-telling together. All Spark Your Imagination kids’ games were created and printed in Canada.
