Vancouver Film School (VFS) has announced that the sixth annual Game Design Expo will be taking place on January 21-22, 2012. Game Design Expo is a unique weekend of presentations and networking, beginning with Industry Speaker Day on Saturday, January 21st. The full day of presentations will be followed by a special panel discussion focused on the local indie game scene.
This year, seven presenters in total from Canada and the U.S. will take the podium, including keynote speaker Bruce Nesmith, Director of Design at Bethesda Softworks and one of the minds behind the multi-award-winning Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Emmanuel Lusinchi, Associate Lead Designer at BioWare Austin, who will discuss BioWare’s hotly-anticipated MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
“Every year as we put together the lineup for our Game Design Expo, I am excited to see the amazing talent from around the globe that would like to be a part of our event,” says Dave Warfield, Head of Game Design at VFS. “This year looks to be an amazing lineup with a mix of creative insights into the design role, and wrapping up the day will be a panel that is more topical than ever before. This year’s Game Design Expo is sure to awe and inspire the designers in all of us.”
On Sunday, January 22, VFS will throw open the doors to the acclaimed one-year Game Design program for a free, day-long Open House. This will be the first time aspiring designers and the public will be able to see inside Game Design’s new 88 East Pender Street campus. The event offers a hands-on look at the program, providing visitors with the opportunity to test-drive student- and alumni-created games, take sample classes, and meet faculty and students.
Tickets to Industry Speaker Day will be released Thursday, November 10 for $125 (CDN). Space is limited, so early ticket purchases are recommended. VFS is proud to partner with the following event sponsors to realize the annual Game Design Expo 2012: G4techTV, Annex Pro, Radical Entertainment, The Georgia Straight and HP Canada.
