PEER 1 Opens European Office
Company hires Industry veteran Dominic Monkhouse to Lead Effort
Vancouver – PEER 1 Network Enterprises, Inc., a global online IT hosting provider, has expanded its reach into Europe, with the opening of a European headquarters in Southampton, United Kingdom, and named Dominic Monkhouse, managing director.
“We have seen consistent demand from our customers for a hosting facility in Europe,” said Fabio Banducci, president and CEO of PEER 1. “Strong demand, favorable exchange rates, falling real estate prices and a UK market growth rate of 25 percent make this an opportune time for PEER 1 to expand its presence in Europe. The office will support more than 500 UK and European-based customers, who currently utilize PEER 1’s North American hosting services, and expand quickly to help additional businesses manage their online presence.”
In addition to establishing its headquarters, PEER 1 has launched its first data center in the UK, which strengthens the company’s presence in Europe alongside existing London and Amsterdam network Points-of-Presence (PoPs). The data center offers managed and dedicated hosting services to PEER 1 and ServerBeach customers through an initial provision of 100 secure racks.
“The UK market is responsible for approximately 15 percent of global managed hosting revenue. Over the past year, the UK market has seen growth rates above the 25 percent mark, and even higher for some providers, despite the economic condition,” said Antonio Piraino, senior analyst for Tier1 Research. “Companies offering datacenter services in the UK are fast becoming major hubs for customers as far afield as Eastern European and Middle East due
to the region’s high level of expertise, language skills and connectivity.”
As with PEER 1’s existing global data centers, the UK location will operate on a Cisco core with Foundry load balancing and Juniper dedicated client firewalls. The data center will also deliver energy-efficient downflow, eco-friendly cold-aisle containment, upstream IP transit direct to the PoP in London, with redundant fibre connecting PEER 1’s global SuperNetwork™ to
the data center, and UPS back-up and generator redundancy power.
PEER 1’s wholly-owned SuperNetwork offers highly scalable and available content delivery to customers through Fast-Ethernet and Gigabit-Ethernet access over 13,000 miles of fibre connectivity. This content delivery network (CDN) delivers faster connections and improved uptime to customers through its powerful network backbone, alongside efficient single-source fault resolution that eliminates reliance on third party carrier resolution.
“We rely on exceptional hosting and IT infrastructure service to deliver successful high profile, rich media campaigns to our clients,” said Matthew Don, technical director at Skive, the London-based creative digital agency. “With PEER 1 this is a given and having a PEER 1 office and data center at our door step makes it even easier to focus and grow our core business, instead of worrying about enterprise IT issues.”
Dominic Monkhouse has been named managing director of the new PEER 1 European headquarters. The industry veteran is responsible for sales, marketing and service, building upon PEER 1’s FirstCall commitment to customer support. Prior to joining PEER 1, Monkhouse served as managing director of IT Labs, where he transformed the company into a fast-growing IT service provider in the UK SMB market. Before his stint at IT Labs, Monkhouse was managing director of Rackspace in the UK.
