Siemens Canada honoured by Sheridan College

[1]MISSISSAUGA – Nov. 12 – Siemens Canada [2] was presented with the Technology Award at the Sheridan College [1] Big Picture Gala event, held on October 23 in Brampton, Ontario. Siemens President and CEO, Guenther Scholz, was on hand to accept the award on behalf of Siemens and its 6,000 employees in Canada.

“Siemens is honoured to receive this award from Sheridan College, as it reflects our strategy of exploring innovation through education,” said Scholz. To meet the challenges of the 21st century, future generations will require new kinds of knowledge. Siemens promotes advanced education and further training of young people. “Our partnership with Sheridan College is part of our commitment as a knowledge-based company to sustainable economic development and a forward-looking society,” he said.

The Technology Award was presented to Siemens by Jocelyn Piercy, the Dean of the School of Applied Computing and Engineering Sciences. In her remarks, Dean Piercy noted, “Siemens Canada supplies scholarship support for Sheridan students and Siemens’ technology is used throughout Sheridan’s campuses, including the Davis Campus, where there is a laboratory named after Siemens.”

Siemens is one of the largest and most diversified companies in the world of electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors. The company has almost 6,000 employees in Canada, working to develop and manufacture products, design and install complex systems and projects, and tailor a wide range of solutions for individual requirements. For almost 100 years in Canada, Siemens has stood for technical achievements, innovation, quality and reliability.

The Big Picture event is held to celebrate outstanding education, people and achievement and recognize innovators in the arts, business, community services and technology fields. Funds raised from the Gala support Sheridan’s Students Capital Campaign. The campaign was initiated to raise money and
gather support to expand the College facilities, and enhance the academic programming and investment in technology.

With approximately 700 guests in attendance, including dignitaries from leading Canadian corporations, alumni, faculty members and students, the event was an outstanding success.
