Canadian Videogame Awards Nominations Now Open For Games Developed In 2014

Canadian Video Game AwardsNominations opened today for games developed in 2014 for the 5th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards (CVAs), taking place November 21st at The Carlu in the heart of downtown Toronto. With the move to an autumn format, this year’s show will present awards from 2013 and a portion of 2014. As one of the largest producers of videogames in the world, the show will celebrate Canada’s spot on the world stage as a leader in interactive entertainment. This industry contributes $2.3 billion to Canada’s GDP and employs over 16,500 men and women in studios right across Canada. 

“Heading into the holiday season,” said Victor Lucas, co-host and executive producer of The Electric Playground and Reviews on the Run, “videogames are high on everyone’s wish lists. We’d really like Canadians to recognize just how much incredible interactive entertainment was made this year in this country.”

Nominations will be accepted for work developed in Canada and released in 2014 on or before July 31st and are welcome from all parts of Canada’s diverse videogame industry. The Call for Nominations will close on August 31, 2014. Nominations for 2013 games have already concluded. The award categories, as established by a committee of industry leaders from across Canada, are:

  • Best Animation
  • Best Audio
  • Best Console Game
  • Best Downloadable Game
  • Best Game Design
  • Best Game on the Go
  • Best Game Innovation
  • Best iOS Game
  • Best Indie Game
  • Best New Character
  • Best Original Music
  • Best Social/Casual Game
  • Best Technology
  • Best Visual Arts
  • Best Writing
  • Game of the Year
  • Fans’ Choice Award

Finalists in all categories will be announced October 15, 2014, when public voting for the Fans’ Choice Award will open.

The Canadian Videogame Awards are produced by Reboot Communications and EP Media and are officially endorsed by DigiBC, Interactive Ontario and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada. The producers are joined by a national industry committee of developers and leaders in the Canadian digital entertainment industry.
