President And CEO Of Film And Creative Industries Nova Scotia Named

film nova scotiaNova Scotia’s creative businesses will expand into new markets, create more jobs, and build stronger cultural communities with a new CEO dedicated to growing its economy. Lisa Bugden has been appointed president and CEO of Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia. Ms. Bugden brings more than 24 years of experience in leadership, public and government affairs, and business development in the public and private sectors.

“Twenty-eight thousand Nova Scotians work in arts and culture industries, generating almost $1.2 billion, and we are only scratching the surface,” said Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations John MacDonell, on behalf of Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. “Lisa Bugden is the right person, with the right skills, to work with industry to grow creative businesses that many Nova Scotian families depend on.”

With management experience and insight over a broad range of industries, she joins the organization as it continues to expand Nova Scotia’s billion-dollar arts and culture industries to new markets, create new jobs and build stronger cultural communities.

“Lisa Bugden is a dynamic collaborator. Her expertise, combined with her passion for economic development, make her the ideal person to foster relationships within the creative sector on our behalf,” said Cheryl Hodder, chair of the board of directors. “We are excited about the future under her leadership, as we set the long-term vision and strategy for growth of the province’s many diverse creative industries.”

Before joining Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia, Ms. Bugden was a vice-president with Nova Scotia Business Inc. where she developed strategies to help home-grown businesses reach new markets and become stronger global competitors.

“In today’s global and digital world there is no barrier between having a strong culture and new businesses rooted in unique cultural assets,” said Ms. Bugden. “I am looking forward to working with communities and businesses as we build on the strength of what’s been achieved at Film Nova Scotia and the opportunities ahead with Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia.”

Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia was launched in November of 2012 as a lead agency for Nova Scotia’s creative businesses. It will provide the expertise needed to help those entrepreneurs become more productive and globally competitive.

Ms. Bugden will begin with the agency April 22 and will lead the agency’s consultations with industry partners to produce a new five-year strategic plan.
